How to Pay Zero Interest on Your Credit Card Balance Until 2014 | USA

Posted by Levasto India | | Posted in

How to Pay Zero Interest on Your Credit Card Balance Until 2014
If you’re heading into Fall with a fat balance on your credit card, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans have incurred excessive debt over the past few years, and this trend spikes early in the year.
And, when it comes to credit card debt, there is some good news and some bad news.

First, the bad news. Starting in Feb of 2011, new rules and regulations went into effect that more tightly regulate what credit card companies can do.  They're not able to retroactively increase rates, must have 45 days advance notice of rate hikes, and are limited in what they charge for overdraft fees.  So, how can this be bad news for consumers?

Well, the bad news is that in order to compensate for lost revenue from these new rules, credit card companies have been jacking up interest rates for everyone.  You may already have received notice that your borrowing costs have gone up.

So, what’s the good news?  Well, the good news is that there still remains something people can do to immediately cut the interest rate on the amount they owe on their credit card to zero. It’s called a zero interest balance transfer.

By transferring the balance of your debt from your current credit card to a new interest-free card, you can give yourself time (often up to 21 months) during which no interest is charged against your starting balance. This allows all the money you make in payments each month to be applied directly into paying down your balance, shrinking the amount you owe much faster. This can greatly benefit your credit score and credit-to-debt ratio, both of which can make you much more attractive to lenders.

There are some things to consider before transferring your balance to a new card:
  • Always take into account the length of the zero percent APR period.
  • Be sure you are able to pay off your balance within this introductory period. Otherwise, high interest rates often kick in when the period ends.
  • Make a payment schedule and set aside money each month to pay towards your balance.
  • Ask up front about transfer fees. These can come as unexpected surprises and throw off the payment plan you have created.
So, how do you go about finding the very best credit card with a zero percent APR on balance transfers?
More good news!  There is a great, free online service called CreditCards.com that can help you find offers from credit card companies eager to get your balance transfer business. All of the credit card offers are presented clearly so they’re easy to compare, and you can find the offer that works best for you.

The site is also a tremendous informational resource for consumers wanting to make informed decisions about their spending.

For many people, a zero balance transfer is a complete no brainer, and can result in significant savings in the short term. After all, why would you pay a penny more in interest than you have to?  And, by eliminating your debt, you improve your credit score, and earn lower interest rates on your credit cards.

And, using a service like CreditCards.com is one of the best ways to find a balance transfer credit card that will help you get rid of your credit card balance fast.

2G auction flops; nets just Rs 9,407 cr

The government was targetting a minimum of Rs 28,000 crore from the sale of 2G spectrum in the GSM band

New Delhi: The much-talked about 2G mobile phone spectrum auction today virtually flopped with just Rs 9,407 crore being garnered in the process contrary to the high valuation estimated by the CAG in its damning report of the government two years ago.
2G auction flops; nets just Rs 9,407 cr

The auction, which lasted just two days, got total bids worth Rs 9,407.64 crore, the Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said at the end of the bidding which was a far cry from the 35-day bidding for the 3G spectrum in 2010 that got Rs 67,719 crore.

The government was targetting a minimum of Rs 28,000 crore from the sale of 2G spectrum in the GSM band and the tepid response may upset its efforts to meet the revised fiscal deficit target of 5.3 per cent of GDP. Overall, the government had budget Rs 40,000 crore as revenue from spectrum sale this fiscal.

Sibal refused to comment on the CAG’s estimation of Rs 1.76 lakh crore as the loss to the exchequer in giving away spectrum on first-come-first-serve basis in 2008.

In an apparent dig at the CAG, he merely said, “the facts are before the nation and quite clear.”
Going by the 3G auction price, the current sale should have fetched Rs 1 lakh crore but “what we have got is Rs 9,407 crore... so this is a market and that is how it plays itself out.”

None of the five companies bidding for the spectrum made any offer for pan-India airwaves for which the reserve price was set at Rs 14,000 crore, a rate considered high by the industry.

Sibal said in all 101 out of the 144 blocks of spectrum on offer got bids. Metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai, which accounted for 40 per cent of the base price of Rs 14,000 crore for 5 MHz of 2G spectrum, drew no bids.

Google ad revenue tops entire US print media

Posted by Levasto India | | Posted in

So far in 2012, Google raked in $20.8 billion in ad revenue

"In the first six months of 2012, Google raked in $20.8 billion in ad revenue, while the whole of US print media (newspapers and magazines) generated just $19.2 billion from print advertising," the report said on Tuesday.

Statista conceded that the comparison is "obviously unfair" given the fact that, unlike the US print media, Google operates globally.

Although Google may be gaining revenue at the expense of the print media, the search giant saw a 15 percent year-on-year decline in the value of each advertising click in the third quarter.

"In general, it appears that most people on the web are starting to avoid advertisements as much as possible, no matter how interesting or personalised they seem to be," the report said.

Google Maps app for iOS 6 in works: Report

Non availability of Google Maps has somehow dampened the euphoria surrounding iOS 6 as Apple's very own mapping service has not lived up to the expectations. However, users of iOS 6 based devices have now reasons to cheer as Google has reportedly finished working on a new maps application for the Apple devices based on the latest operating system.

According to the report of the Wall Street Journal, the maps application has also been distributed among several iOS 6 users for testing. Google may also soon submit the application with Apple for approval.

No official statement however has been made and there will inevitably be questions over whether Apple will approve it in the App Store.

Top 10 iPad Tips & Tricks | Top World Net

Posted by Levasto India | | Posted in

Having recently received an iPad and joined the iOS game, I decided to do some research on ins and outs of this device. I discovered that many of the same time-saving tricks that can be done on a Mac can be done on an iPad, too. Here are my top 10 tips for using an iPad:
Top 10 iPad Tips & Tricks

Reset - Probably the first thing a new user to an iPad is going want to do is learn how to reset their iPad without having to turn it all the way off and on again. To do this, just hold down the power button and home button for a few seconds and the iPad will reset.

Force Quit - This is really simple to do. If a program gets frozen or you want to exit right away, just click on the home button to return to the main screen.

Screen Shot - Something I do on a daily basis as an educator is taking a screen shot on my mac for tutorials and professional development. This can also be done on an iPad by holding down the power button and home button for a second and then releasing. A camera sound will go off as the screen turns white. The screen shot will be stored in photos.

File Transfers - Probably the easiest way to transfer a file from the iPad is simply to click the share button in the upper right and then email the file as an attachment.

Copy and Paste - Just tap and hold down on the text and select copy; go to a new app and then tap and hold down and click paste. To copy a whole paragraph, tap and hold down on a paragraph 4 times to select it all.

Web Scrolling - A real time saver when browsing a web page is the ability to return to the top rather than having to slide your finger over the entire page over and over. Just click back at the title bar to return to the top of the screen.

Dock - You can manage the dock in the iPad in a similar way to to how it's done on a Mac: Click down on a app until it wiggles and then drag and drop it on the dock.

Wireless Keyboard - I find that typing on an iPad is clunky, to say the least. While it does work for simple browsing or tweeting, it is not ideal for doing blog posts or more detailed work. For that reason, I suggest getting a wireless keyboard (any Bluetooth will do) to facilitate typing.

Deleting - If your iPad tends to fill up with useless applications that you have downloaded, it's simple to delete them by holding down on top of an app until it starts wiggling and then pressing the x button to delete.

Smart Cover - Probably my favorite cover for the iPad is the smart cover, which not only connects via a magnet, but also puts the iPad to sleep when pulled over the front.

Where Can I Download Windows 8 for Testing?

Would you like to download and try the full edition of Windows 8 on your computer before buying a copy?
Microsoft today released Windows 8 to the world.
Take Windows 8 for a test drive

If you have a computer that running either Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may head over to windows.com to buy your own upgrade copy of Windows 8 Pro (Professional) edition for $39.99 (or INR1,999 if you are in India). This is an extremely reasonable price and it will stay valid until January, 2013.

Prior to releasing the full version of Windows 8, Microsoft had offered a release preview edition that allowed enthusiasts to evaluate the new software before making the switch. Now that Windows 8 final is available, the release preview edition has been pulled from the Microsoft website.

That said, if you would like to try out Windows 8 before buying the upgrade pack, here’s an easy way. Go to msdn.microsoft.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and you’ll find links to download the 90-day trial edition of Windows 8. Microsoft provides these evaluation copies for developers but even consumers can download them for trying Windows 8.

A word of caution though. These are evaluation copies that will expire after 90 days and cannot be upgraded to the final edition. You should therefore create a bootable Windows 8 DVD from the evaluation ISOs and either set them up in a dual-boot environment or, better still, setup a Virtual Machine.
